This summer will see the very first Art-err Limits Fringe Festival taking place in the picturesque and historical city of Oxford. Overseen by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, which was founded in 1975 and organizes a local program of artistic and cultural activities for the benefit of the Oxford community, the Art-er Limits Fringe Festival will see the city open its doors, theaters and alternative spaces across downtown Oxford to welcome performance and visual artists from the local area and the wider Mississippi region, who will present a series of thought-provoking and interactive events that will feature everything from ballet to slam poetry. The two day festival will also include a number of ticketed food tasting events.

Summer Camps at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center

Seussical, Jr. 3-Week Elementary Musical Theatre Camp
Camp Dates: June 2-20, 2014; 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Production Dates: June 20-21, 2014
Grades: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

A fun-filled Musical Theatre Camp open to experienced actors as well as first-time performers. The camp will culminate in a full production of Seussical, Jr, to be performed for summer camp groups and a special evening performance for friends, family and the general public on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21. This clever and surprisingly sophisticated take on Dr. Seuss’ tales of Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and other tales will be an exciting adventure for all. A true ensemble piece, there are many terrific roles for all students. As with all WINGS camps, there will be training in stage, movement, voice, choreography and costume design. Along with Seussical rehearsals and performances, participants will even receive technical training including learning about costumes, designing scenery, lights and sound.

Seussical, Jr. 3-Week Junior High Musical Theatre Camp

Grades: 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th

Shrek Far, Far Away Adventure Camp
Camp Dates: June 23-27, 2014; 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Grades: 2nd-5th

Once upon a time things got ugly when an unseemly ogre showed up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t stop talking, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of camp adventure that will rock LMDC! Come join the fun in our faraway kingdom for an upside camp down experience. Special meet and greet guest appearances by Shrek and other characters. During this enchanting camp we will have a special Ogre Craft Station, Shrek cupcake baking, mud pie and slime making in our Viking Kitchen, Puss and Boots sword fighting, look alike contests, Gingerbread Man relays, along with lots of Shrek stories. On our last day of camp we will take a field trip to the Honey Island Swamp Tour to wrap up our far, far away adventure camp!

Fairy Tale Players
June 30-July 3, 2014; 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Production Dates: July 3, 2014
Grades: 2nd-4th

Explore the process of putting on a play, including acting, costumes, song, dance and props. The camp culminates with a performance of “Fractured Fairy Tales” that will delight family and friends on July 3.

Dancing with the Stars Swing Dance Workshop
June 4-14, 2014
Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Grades: 6th-12th

Swing dancing is a vintage dance from the 30s and 40s danced to rock and roll, jump blues, big band swing and jazz. Gather your friends and learn to dance like the stars. Show off your twists and turns after you complete this energetic course that culminates in a dance showcase where family and friends will be invited to join in fun.

10-Minute Play Festival
August 2, 2014; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
August 3, 2014; 1 p.m.-7 p.m.
Grades: 9th-12th

It’s crazy! It’s wild! It’s gorilla theatre! In just 24 hours, 10-minute plays are written, produced and judged.
